John Richards started Concert Production in 1987, building custom equipment cabinets out of Murfreesboro. A year later, he got the call that would define his career — Lyle Lovett needed a front-of-house sound engineer. John has mixed every single Lyle Lovett show since 1988. Over 35 years. Every tour, every venue, managing 50 microphone feeds for Lovett’s 15-piece Large Band. Lyle himself has said publicly: "John Richards owns and runs the company that does our sound and lights. He’s mixed every show the band and I played since then."

But John didn’t just tour. He planted roots. In 1997, he opened Concert Musical Supply on the historic Murfreesboro square — a full-service music store built on the philosophy that a local shop should have the same expertise as a Nashville pro outfit, just with friendlier prices and actual human beings who care about your instrument.

Today, Concert Musical Supply is an authorized Fender Service Center, one of only two Laney Supergroup stores in Tennessee, and the largest Crafter Guitar dealer in the state. They carry Fender, Taylor, Martin, Gretsch, Yamaha, Pearl, and more. They teach lessons, do repairs on everything from guitars to tubas, and they’re the go-to for Rutherford County school band rentals — Oakland Middle School’s band program sends families straight here.
